Winklevoss Twinsโ Endorsement
As current Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss explained that they would be casting their votes. Each brother sent 15.47 BTC (about $1 million at the time of sending this article) into Trump’s campaign.
Tyler Winklevoss called Trump โpro-bitcoinโ and โcrypto-friendlyโ while accusing Biden of attacking the crypto industry. He referred to this as โweaponization of the banking system against cryptosโ. According to him, regulatory actions by the Biden administration targeting cryptocurrency companies should be referred to as such.
It is recalled by Tyler that enforcement actions against cryptocurrency-related companies have been done by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission during Bidenโs administration, named Operation Choke Point 2.0.
Legal and Political Tactics of Trump
Donald J. Trump has not disappeared from the political scene, despite the numerous cases he is still dealing with in court. He was convicted in May of 34 counts of felonies, which will be sentenced on July 11th. Nonetheless, many people give him high marks for his performance in a possible race for the Republican nomination.
Trumpโs positive view concerning cryptocurrencies has sparked a lot of arguments between his supporters and opponents. While some have appreciated the approval from the Winklevoss twins, others were doubtful about this decision after he referred to bitcoin as a scam last year (2021) when he called it Bitcoin. However, since then, Trump has fully embraced the crypto space and nicknamed himself โCrypto Presidentโ as part of wooing those within the crypto community.
On the flip side, President Biden has drawn criticism for his administrationโs regulatory policies. There are indications that Biden might also want to use cryptocurrency for his reelection campaign. The evolving political climate shows that cryptocurrency is becoming an integral part of the American political process, and both partiesโ candidates interact with it differently.
Crypto Commitments by Former Presidents
Speaking at a fundraising event in San Francisco, Trump promised to end Bidenโs โcrypto warโ if he wins the election.
This position is consistent with the views of some world leaders, such as Nayib Bukele, El Salvadorโs president, who supported Trump.
Similarly, Trump appeared to be closer to crypto users while hosting NFT buyers for dinner, announcing that his campaign would accept cryptocurrencies and holding meetings with top miners. According to the Coingape report, he plans on supporting the industry by declaring all BTC mined in the US only.
